Managed Medicare: New Data Shows Care Management Drives More Than 50% of Savings

May 16, 2019

Care management is a key strategy for health care organizations taking financial risk for their patients' costs and outcomes. Yet, many organizations struggle to answer the question: "What impact is our care management program having?" Given the investment in these programs, they deserve an answer.

A novel analysis by Evolent has isolated the impact of our partners' care management programs. Its conclusion: Done right, care management is the primary driver of savings within managed Medicare populations. In fact, across three Medicare accountable care organizations, its impact was greater than 50% of their overall shared savings.

In this insight brief, Evolent's Shantanu Phatakwala, Vice President of Clinical Research, and Malcolm Charles, Director of Clinical Research and Development, describe the study and the key insights it provides. Download the brief to learn:

  • Which key patient result is linked with the greatest savings.
  • Why engagement alone isn’t a strong predictor of outcomes.
  • How rigorous measurement is essential to understand what’s working, and what’s not.
